Dr. Jennie Herd

Walden

Where did you go to medical school?
Newcastle Upon Tyne, England, UK. I qualified as a Doctor in 1999 and have worked as a GP since 2004 in the UK and 2015 in Canada.

What lead to you becoming a family Physician?
I love the variety of Family Medicine and the challenge of never knowing what is coming through the door. I strongly believe in shared decision making and empowering patients to make positive changes in their health. I enjoy establishing and building relationships with the patients encouraging openness and communication.

Why did you decide to go into your medical field?
I chose Family Medicine because I love the continuity of care and providing healthcare for the whole family from infants to seniors.

What do you like best about working for Pinnacle?
I am excited to work in a large exciting new practice with an enthusiastic team of Physicians

How do you define patient care?
I work hard to build relationships to establish lines of communication so that patients feel comfortable to bring up issues they may have struggled to discuss previously. I try to work accessible hours and encourage patients to see me for urgent as well as more chronic problems to establish a single point of care.

What do you love about your job?
My patients!

Outside of the office, what are your interests/hobbies?
Outside of work I love spending time in the mountains skiing, hiking, camping and paddle boarding with my husband and 3 children who are 11,9 and 7. I enjoy keeping fit with yoga, running and cycling through Fish Creek Park.

I have a specialist interest in women’s health and fit IUDs, I have also done additional qualifications in dermatology and am dermoscopy trained so can detect early changes in moles or skin lesions.
